Education and Illiteracy

Education is a cornerstone of national progress, yet in India, the literacy rate reveals stark inequalities. With an overall literacy rate of 64.8%, the gap between male literacy at 75.3% and female literacy at 53.7% exposes a significant gender disparity of 21.6 percentage points. Despite numerous government initiatives, literacy remains a challenge, particularly among rural and underprivileged populations. Deep-rooted gender biases further exacerbate the denial of education to girls, perpetuating cycles of disadvantage.

At Surman Sansthan, we encountered several adolescent girls from marginalized families who had never set foot in a classroom. Recognizing education as their pathway to empowerment, our founder, Manan Chaturvedi, embraced their cause with unwavering dedication. She developed a customized, accelerated learning program designed to impart foundational knowledge and vital skills. Within one to two years, these girls were ready to integrate into formal schooling systems. Today, their remarkable progress stands as a testament to resilience and hope. Surman Sansthan is steadfast in its mission to provide every child with access to quality education, enabling them to unlock their potential and forge a brighter future.
